History from the owners

We are the second owners of this beautiful Elan Impression 394. We bought her 4

years ago directly from the 1st owner at her home country in Slovenia. She was a

perfectly kept, seldomly used “marina queen” in tip top shape with a lot of extras (e.g.

Premium pack options list).

We then prepared Firefly for our ocean adventures with improvements worth at least

USD 35.000:

• massive upgrade in solar panels, change to lithium batteries with Victron tools

and an inverter which gave us complete independence from shore power.

• Installation of a spinnaker-boom at the mast and spinnaker which gave us the

perfect setup for light down-wind situations at our Atlantic crossing.

• Complete new upholstery in the saloon and a premium mattress for the front

cabin for more comfort

• Rebuilt bottom completely with new barrier coat and antifouling for prolonged

osmosis protection

• Sail drive maintenance and new diaphragm seal

• Gas system maintenance according to German law, certified until June 2025

• Huge investments in security: AIS, EPIRB, Viking self-righting rescue life raft,

VHF with remote-access station in the cockpit, etc.

In July 2023 our family of three moved onboard and started our adventure crossing

the Mediterranean and finally also crossing the Atlantic and enjoying the gems of the

Caribbean Sea. Along the way we tried to maintain her in tip top shape and regularly

had her undergo maintenance and improvements, the latest being new antifouling

and hull polishing (March 2024), complete service of inboard engine and sail drive

(March and June 2024), new varnish of teak toe rail, teak slated cockpit seats

companionway (Feb 2024).

Our sabbatical has sadly come to an end now and we need to part from our boat. We

leave her ready to sail on, equipped with all necessary tools.

About

About the Elan 394 Impression

  • A Slovenian brand, a sea-kind hull shape designed by Rob Humphreys, we instantly

fell in love with the raised coach roof and large portlights and deck hatches creating a

bright ambiance. Very pleasant, warm, and inviting. Also, the pushpit with integrated

seats, a signature feature of the Elan sailboats. For us, it was a true family boat and

made our little adventure very safe and comfortable while cruising the coastal area as

well as offshore in our Atlantic crossing. Easy short-handed sailing.

  • The Impression 394 by Elan was delivered with a CE certificate. The CE class A

category certificate (unlimited Ocean voyages) was issued by Germanischer Lloyd.

  • The hull was laminated with VAIL – Vacuum Assisted Infusion Laminated technology

to considerably improve the hull's strength and mechanical and chemical properties.

The water has always been a part of my life since learning to sail aboard a Sailfish while vacationing in Chatham, Massachusetts. At twelve, I graduated to Penguins and 420’s at the Tred Avon Yacht Club in Oxford, Maryland. My parents always belonged to the Corinthian Yacht Club in Philadelphia and I often accompanied them on cruises aboard a Hinckley Bermuda 40 that we cruised in the Chesapeake.

Understanding banking after working 12 years for Loyola Savings and Loan of Maryland, I helped navigate the purchase of a 32’ Pearson Vanguard for a friend and taught him to sail. Loving the idea of sharing my passion for boating, I joined Oxford Boatyard Yacht Sales (in what is now Safe Harbor Oxford Boatyard and Marina) in 1990 and worked as a broker and office manager for 25 years.

In 1993, Oxford Boatyard Yacht Sales became a dealer for Sabre and Back Cove Motor Yachts and I acquired an understanding and respect for powerboats. I worked closely with the boatyard commissioning new vessels and working as a liaison between new owners and the marina. I have an intimate understanding of the boat buying process - how to guide new owners through surveys, sea trials, registration, and documentation.

I love all boats and each one has its own quality. Though I would consider myself a traditionalist in boat design, I like what the new designs offer in comfort and ability.

My husband (of 30 years) and I live in Easton, Maryland. My husband is the rigging supervisor at Safe Harbor Oxford Boatyard and our daughter, having graduated from Washington College in 2020, is now teaching English as well as coaching the sailing team at the Gunston School in Centreville, Md. She has recently come on board as the Summer Sailing Director with the Tred Avon Yacht Club.

I am starting my 7th year as a broker with Brewer Yacht Sales and in addition to my office at Safe Harbor Zahniser’s in Solomon’s, Maryland I now have an office at Safe Harbor Oxford. This enables me to cover the territory from the Eastern Shore to Solomon’s Island and everything in between.

I look forward to speaking with you and sharing my passion for boats. Let me help you find the perfect yacht or support and guide you in the sale of your existing vessel!
