Sellers Description
Andante
1994 Ocean Alexander 423 Classico Trawler for Sale
Andante, our lovely 1994 Ocean Alexander trawler, is on the market. She’s located in Shelburne, Vermont on Lake Champlain (Now located in Hampton VA!). Prior to moving north in 2022, we were full-time liveaboards in the New York Harbor and did regional cruising in the Long Island Sound and along the Hudson River. Andante has traveled extensively with previous owners including doing the Great Loop, along the East Coast, and multiple trips to the Bahamas.
She has twin Caterpillar 3208 NA engines with 420 total hp, a fully enclosed hardtop flybridge, and a closed-loop multiple zone Kabola diesel heating system that has made for cozy winters as winter liveaboards or when extending the season. Included is an 8.5' Boss Boat hard dinghy with 9.9hp Yamaha motor and electric crane/davit for easy deployment. Bridge clearance is 14’ 8” with the mast down, which makes her an ideal boat for looping or inland cruising, and there is minimal exterior teak for easy yearly maintenance.
Andante is a fantastic and well-loved boat - comfortable, well-maintained and beautiful. As a young family of four, she was a wonderful first home together and we will all miss her dearly, but life is taking us in a different direction.
Now it’s time for her next chapter: making your Loop or leisure or liveaboard plans a reality!

We can’t say enough wonderful things about having a flybridge that is a full custom hardtop with a 4-sided enclosure. Morning coffee, evening cocktails, entertaining friends or family, keeping everyone dry and happy in less ideal weather… this is a superb feature if you have plans for lengthy passages. And the couches are comfortable enough to sleep on fully stretched out if you’re not on watch. The upper helm station is primarily where we operated from when underway.

- Accommodations
The Guest Stateroom or V-berth is forward and offers excellent storage, off-set/crossed upper and lower bunks, excellent headroom, overhead hatch and stainless steel portlights. There’s also an overhead hatch with a screen and blackout shade.
Our kiddos loved their room and we put in a small step to make it easy for little ones to get from the sole to the top bunk without assistance. The hanging locker (closet) has some shelving – at one point this closet housed a washer and dryer (still plumbed/ vented) but we never used it for that and have capped the dryer vent from the inside to prevent heat/cold leakage
(2) Stainless steel port lights with screens
(2) reading lamps - need to check functionality
Overhead lighting and full length wardrobe mirror on back of door
12v Adjustable Fan
Thermostat and blower controls for the Kabola heating system zone
Just outside the room is the forward head with a Raritan Crown Head II electric marine toilet and stand-up shower with a built-in seat and a bi-fold door.
The Master Stateroom is located aft of the main salon. There is a queen-sized bed with 3 drawers on each side and a custom inner-spring mattress. There is also additional storage under the bed - right now that is where two additional propellers are stored. There are port & starboard-themed lights on each side of the bed. This is a full beam stateroom with stainless steel side portlights and an overhead hatch on the port side – just FYI, you can’t really open this hatch if you have the dinghy stored on deck directly above it. The master stateroom has its own zone of reverse cycle heating/AC. Drawer and door storage cabinets run along the starboard and port sides with two large hanging locker closets forward; one is full length, and the other has removable shelving in it. In the port rear of the stateroom, there is a small desk with a swing-out stool, mirror, and make-up/jewelry storage. There is a full-length wardrobe mirror located on the back of the door. On the port side is also the master head with a stand-up shower with a bi-fold shower door and Raritan Crown Head II electric marine toilet.

- SALE OF BOAT INCLUDES:
2005 Boss Boat 8.5' rigid dinghy with a cover and custom cradle
2006 Yamaha 9.9hp 4-stroke outboard motor
Spare propellers
Shore power cords + extras (including 50 to 30 amp pigtail)
Probably a bunch of other random and useful things we find as we move gear off.
- Bottom Paint, Spring 2026
The bottom was fully inspected, then put two coats of barrier and two coats of Petit Trinidad HD hard copper/epoxy bottom paint. All zincs and anodes replaced at that time.
Normal recommissioning items (oil change, check systems, fluid levels, etc.), water pump impeller replacement for the generator, spring cleaning, flush the heating system, etc. done Spring 2026.
The top side finish is in serviceable shape, but there is visible wear, and a new owner might eventually want to refinish the boat with either gel coat or modern Marine top-side paint to spruce her up a bit. This is a cosmetic issue only. From 20’ away, you can’t really tell, but if you get closer, you’ll notice that she needs a little love.
Overall, the boat is in very good shape and, like most Taiwanese boats, is overbuilt and feels solid underway. We’ve done our best to keep up with maintenance and replace/repair equipment as issues arise. We’ve never had any major issues and don’t know of any on the horizon, but little stuff will always crop up and need to be addressed.
It’s hard to part with Andante because we love her and have so many great memories from when our kids were first born, but she’s too much boat for us at this point in our life. Someone looking to live aboard or do coastal cruising/the Great Loop would find her both reliable and very comfortable.
