"4 Umbrellas"
MAJOR REFITS in 2012, 2014 and 2018
Overview
Motivated seller looking offers
The all aluminum 2 Umbrellas was built in 1988 by the famous Dutch shipyard Jongert. Jongert is well known for building large, classic, capable, world travelling sailboats and powerboats. 2 Umbrellas is no exception. She was built as an explorer vessel … before the terms explorer and expedition vessel even existed.
She was originally built for an American businessman who cruised her extensively for over 20 years. She has crossed the Atlantic 5 times on her own bottom. Every system on the boat is designed and built to be capable and reliable. At 24m, she is the perfect pocket cruiser for world or coastal passage making.
The current owners have cruised her up and down the east coast, including through a small craft advisory off of Cape Hatteras (not recommended but boat handled fine). They have currently purchased a Dutch river cruiser and are cruising the European inland waterways.
MAJOR REFITS in 2012, 2014 and 2018
4 Umbrellas is a custom, one-of-a-kind, transatlantic motoryacht. It is for the yachtsman that demands the finest. She is available at a very attractive price; replacement cost would be approx. $8,000,000.
This 24m (78ft) all aluminum ship was built by the famous Dutch builder Jongert in 1988 for a successful American businessman. She crossed the Atlantic 5 times and cruised much of the world. She has had a series of caretakers over the years and is now ready for the next adventures.
The current owners have mainly cruised her up and down the east coast. A recent passage off Cape Hatteras was done during a small craft advisory ? she is an easy vessel to feel safe in. The current owners have now bought a 15m river cruiser in Europe and plan to spend the next 3 years on their next adventures.
Everything about the ship is well thought out and constructed. She has twin CAT 3406 main engines and twin 30KW John Deere generators.
She is currently on the hard after getting a new set of mechanical seals installed on both shafts. These ceramic spring loaded seals are from the original manufacturer Rubber Design and in fact were professionally installed by Rubber Design, they are good for at least another 10 years of trouble free running. Keeping with the commercial design (originally in class until approx 2006), the shafts use a commercial circulating oil cooling and lubrication system.
Some of the recent work includes newly cleaned and recoated black/grey tanks, full bottom job down to the fairing, 4 new exhaust elbows, 4x new 6 inch valves for the main sea chests with gear drives, rebuilt aft deck winch, new hydraulic lines for the crane and much more.
She is a beautiful ship and always attracts admirers and at the same time is one of the most capable and proven 78ft boats around.

OVERVIEW
4 Umbrellas is an incredible ship. Everywhere you look, you will be amazed at the quality of her build. The engines are Caterpillar work engines, not typical yacht engines. The generators are commercial equipment, they run at 1200 RPM, not 1800 RPM as the new units do now. Everywhere you look thought the yacht she has massive stainless fittings and you can easily see the quality built into the entire vessel.
The master stateroom with ensuite head is amazing. The master bath is huge with Jacuzzi tub, dual sinks and large shower, being aft and totally private. The shafts are sealed in oil and then cooled by sea water, which is an amazing feature. Almost all boats have shafts that are cooled by sea water. Chances are you have never seen an oil cooled shaft. This is “big ship stuff”. The advantage is complete quiet and no salt water damage to the shaft. Her current owners have slept in the master stateroom many times while running, and say they could've been staying in the “Four Seasons”. The naval architect that oversaw the current owners refit stated that these are normally only found on megayachts. Full real walkaround decks, oversized anchors and windlass, flybridge with comfortable seating throughout and room enough for any party.
It’s impossible to turn off the generators at anchor on most other Yachts of this size due to the power demand for household type appliances and poor ventilation. This is one of the few ships of this size that can be a “Dead Ship”. A term often used when anchoring out with all 110/220V power off; windows, hatches, doors, and ports open for ventilation. The ship has a massive battery room with 9 new batteries that weigh approx. 450 pounds each. With the use of the large inverter system and huge battery bank, the SubZero refrigeration/freezer and other systems allow everything to keep proper temperature for longer periods of time. All the staterooms have great ventilation with hatches, screens and dorades for fresh air. The salon and pilothouse areas have opening windows and screen doors. The screen doors are a work of art. Important to note that because she was originally built for an American owner, she is a 60 cycle boat.
Just one small example of the fine quality: the (8) deck chairs, the (4) arm chairs and the (2) Commodore Steamers on the aft deck are made by Barlow Tyrie. These are the finest English teak chairs (all chairs refinished).
4 Umbrellas received a fresh bottom paint job in March 2019. See a complete list of additional updates in the "UPGRADES" section of the listing specifications.

• The helm area (bridge) is full beam with port and starboard sliding side doors allowing easy access to the side decks. With both doors open, it is very easy to pop your head out either side to check on docking. The bridge also has seating and a table on the aft port side. There is an extension and mattress section stored in the VIP cabin to turn this seating area into a small berth.

HISTORY FROM PREVIOUS OWNER
The extremely knowledgeable, wealthy yachtsman that built the boat originally had several production boats. He wanted the finest yacht available that could cross the Atlantic and tour Europe and the Americas; no expense was spared. He chose Jongert for several reasons:
Finest Dutch quality. Dutch then and today, some of the finest builders in the world.
Even though they were sailboat builders, their boats routinely circled the globe.
The joinery work is incredibly finished.
He wanted a boat with a Lloyd 100A4 certificate. Note that almost all boats built today and then are “built to ABS or Lloyds standard”. They do not have a certificate. There is no one from outside to certify that the builder really met these standards when built.
He wanted an all aluminum boat, weight saving and great strength.
The boat was launched in 1988 at 71’ as LADY MARION. After two Atlantic crossings, he returned to Jongert in 1996 to lengthen the boat to approximately 80’. At that time, there was an extensive costly refit of the entire boat. The refit involved all systems. The added length was to:
Add 2,000 gallons of fuel capacity.
Have a larger, more comfortable aft deck to enjoy dining and entertaining.
Have a euro stern for easy access to the tender and water.
The boat crossed the Atlantic two more times on her own bottom. In approx. 2003, he went to Royal Huisman for another major refit. He went to Royal Huisman because he wanted to see the quality of the refit work. Obviously convinced of the workmanship, he ordered a 120’ Yacht “Arcadia” that could circle the globe. (Arcadia was launched in 2006).
Per the original owner, "LADY MARION never let us down, with all the cruising, and with all the remote spots we visited”.
She was then sold to a gentleman from Palm Beach in 2007. He made a few trips to the Bahamas and kept her in Palm Beach at the Brazilian docks. He spent approximately $500,000 on various upgrades and had a full time crew of two. Her current owner purchased the boat in early 2012.
GRAND CRU was purchased after an extensive search to take her current owner & family through the Caribbean, then to cross the Atlantic and cruise Europe for several years. The refit was done with an open checkbook as described in detail. The current owners are now ready for a much larger yacht, 5 staterooms and crew quarters for 4, to allow them to cruise with more of their family, 4 children and 6 grandchildren.
