For Sale: 1986 Bristol 41 – Heritage, Craftsmanship, and Enduring Elegance
Discover a classic that transcends time. Maratime was designed by the legendary Ted Hood and built in Rhode Island, offering a rare combination of elegant design, seaworthy performance, and modern comforts—perfect for discerning sailors seeking both adventure and refinement. She offers a 2 stateroom 2 head layout with plenty of headroom in a teak and mahogany interior. She is rigged for shorthanded cruising and has been well cared for and maintained. Enjoy gunkholding with the shoal draft drawing only 4'6" with the board up, and see kindly open ocean passages with a full 10' draft board down. Maratime is hull 70 of 104 built, and she shows the superb fit and finish details of Bristol craftmanship. A desirable aft cockpit model for offshore sailing, this medium displacement cruiser tracks very well and handles heavy weather with ease. In short, the Bristol 41.1 AC is built to a high standard and is intended for blue water cruising, with and acceptable turn of speed. Storage is far better than most modern production boats.
Heritage & Craftsmanship
Every curve of her hull, every detail on deck, and every interior finish reflects meticulous craftsmanship. Built to endure, with recently replaced chain plates and a proven structural design, this Bristol 41 is as reliable as she is beautiful.
Accommodations
Maratime is an aft cockpit centerboard sloop. Starting forward is the owners stateroom with a V-berth that has a filler. Overboard are hatches and opening ports for light and ventilation. Next aft to port is a head with a shower, sink and lockers. The salon has an L- shaped double-bunk to port, a fixed double drop leaf dining table and a pull out large single bunk to starboard. Opening ports and three hatches, plus the companionway keeps Maratime bright and well ventilated. The navigation station is at the base of the companionway ladder by the galley. The aft cabin and second head is at the base of the companionway to port. This cabin has a double quarter berth, drawers for storage and a shelf above the berth.
The L shaped galley is mid-ship to starboard and equipped with 12V refrigeration, single sink with hot/cold mixer faucet and hand pump, newer Dickinson propane stove/oven, and extendable counter space.
Blue fabric cushions throughout along with the wood cabinetry give the salon a warm, cozy feel. The interior finish is hand rubbed, satin varnished teak, with teak and holly sole.

I have always had a huge love and passion for the water. My boating experience started at the age of 13 when I learned to sail at my familyâs boating club in Cold Spring Harbor, New York. Living on the water was a tremendous advantage as I learned to sail on a Blue Jay and then, the next year, on a Laser. My love for sailing had me racing Laser sailboats for many years!
Â
I then moved on to powerboats and have had many boats, from small Whalers to large Sportfish Convertibles, including a 37-foot Egg Harbor and a 53-foot Viking. My wife Dorothy & I raised our two sons, Taylor and Christian, on our boats, and this increased our love for the boating lifestyle. Our enthusiasm for boating had us vacationing on many Eastern Seaboard locations, including Long Island Sound, Block Island Sound, and our favorite destination, Nantucket Island. Iâve always taken great pride in maintaining and skippering all my vessels.Â
Â
After a 35-year career in sales working for Herff Jones selling yearbooks to schools from Queens to Montauk, joining Brewer Yacht Sales is a natural progression in my lifelong sales career. My strong sales experience has gifted me to be a great listener, a trait which is of the utmost importance in buying and selling boats.Â
Â
I am dedicated to providing a seamless experience for both buyers and sellers, and I look forward to making your dreams come true!
