Description and Recent work 2021-2022

Penina i Moana is a lovely Passport 37. Only 25 of these were built and very few ever come on the market. Her present owners have loved and upgraded her over the last 20 years. They replaced the teak decks with all new teak decking in 2017, her engine was replaced in 2008, Mast and boom were painted with awlgrip in 2017, new Strong Track in 2019, new air-conditioning in 2017 and much more. The Passports and especially the Bob Perry designs are well known for their cruising capabilities. They have a warm and inviting interior, an excellent underbody for cruising and lovely traditional lines that will always turn heads.

Penina has spent the last year in the work building at Oxford Boatyard. She has had her Mast step completely rebuilt. The mast step had failed due to a leaking AC system that went unnoticed until it came up on a survey. It was also found that the upper bearing for the rudder was on the verge of failing as well so her rudder was removed and a whole new upper bearing system was built. She is now out of the shed and will be having her mast put back in in the next few weeks. She is looking wonderful and is now as stout as the day she was built.

Accommodations

This is a wonderful cruising vessel for a couple or family. The interior is warm and inviting with lovely teak tongue and groove bulkheads, solid teak cabinetry and teak and holly sole throughout. Her white overhead in tongue and groove as well as her light fabric below allow for a cozy yet bright interior.

Starting in the forepeake aft of the chain locker is the very large head with separate shower stall. Following the head is the Master Stateroom. There is a double Pullman berth to starboard and hanging locker and cabinets to port.

The Main salon has a large U-shaped dinette to starboard, fixed dining table and open and closed shelving outboard. There is a straight settee to port with open and closed shelving outboard as well. Aft of the dinette is the Navigation station followed by the quarter berth. Aft of the settee and to port of the companionway is the wraparound sea galley.

Her centerline companionway gives access to the engine compartment as well as the cockpit. She has a comfortable T-shaped cockpit with rounded combings. Pedestal wheel steering with cockpit table and drink holder. Her new teak decks are beautiful and comfortable under foot.

The water has always been a part of my life since learning to sail aboard a Sailfish while vacationing in Chatham, Massachusetts. At twelve, I graduated to Penguins and 420’s at the Tred Avon Yacht Club in Oxford, Maryland. My parents always belonged to the Corinthian Yacht Club in Philadelphia and I often accompanied them on cruises aboard a Hinckley Bermuda 40 that we cruised in the Chesapeake.

Understanding banking after working 12 years for Loyola Savings and Loan of Maryland, I helped navigate the purchase of a 32’ Pearson Vanguard for a friend and taught him to sail. Loving the idea of sharing my passion for boating, I joined Oxford Boatyard Yacht Sales (in what is now Safe Harbor Oxford Boatyard and Marina) in 1990 and worked as a broker and office manager for 25 years.

In 1993, Oxford Boatyard Yacht Sales became a dealer for Sabre and Back Cove Motor Yachts and I acquired an understanding and respect for powerboats. I worked closely with the boatyard commissioning new vessels and working as a liaison between new owners and the marina. I have an intimate understanding of the boat buying process - how to guide new owners through surveys, sea trials, registration, and documentation.

I love all boats and each one has its own quality. Though I would consider myself a traditionalist in boat design, I like what the new designs offer in comfort and ability.

My husband (of 30 years) and I live in Easton, Maryland. My husband is the rigging supervisor at Safe Harbor Oxford Boatyard and our daughter, having graduated from Washington College in 2020, is now teaching English as well as coaching the sailing team at the Gunston School in Centreville, Md. She has recently come on board as the Summer Sailing Director with the Tred Avon Yacht Club.

I am starting my 7th year as a broker with Brewer Yacht Sales and in addition to my office at Safe Harbor Zahniser’s in Solomon’s, Maryland I now have an office at Safe Harbor Oxford. This enables me to cover the territory from the Eastern Shore to Solomon’s Island and everything in between.

I look forward to speaking with you and sharing my passion for boats. Let me help you find the perfect yacht or support and guide you in the sale of your existing vessel!
